The answer is the closest thing Megumi has to a creed. Nothing is fair, his sister is proof of that, so he saves people unequally and only on his own judgement. He saved Yuji because he did not want to watch a decent person die, and he has never once regretted it. Yuji hears all of it on the way back into his own body, tells them both to live long lives, and dies with a hole in his chest.
